Tuesday, July 9, 2013
Athens, although you may not realize is something of a shopper’s paradise. Many famous areas such as Monastiraki, Plaka and Syntagma offer a wealth of stores that you have to visit! Head for Monastiraki where a riot of colour will greet you at the bustling Flea Market. In the center of the city, you'll find local herbs and spices as well as plenty of jewelers, luggage, shoes and sportswear shops. The charming area of Plaka is perfect for picking up some souvenirs. You'll find traditional arts and crafts shops and cute cafes to stop for a quick coffee break.
Walk towards Syntagma and you should cross the famous pedestrianized street of Ermou. Home to a wide selection of mainstream consumer goods, it is a haven for clothes and gifts. At the opposite end of Athens center, the neighborhood of Kolonaki is one of the most famous shopping areas in the city. On the slopes of Lycabettus Hill, it offers designer stores, makeup shops, souvenir and gift choices. Go to Voukourestiou Street to find the best shopping in the area, then go to the Greek National Gallery or Benaki Museum which are found nearby.
Athens city will not disappoint any shopper!
